Tactiq alternative that respects your API keys
Tactiq is the leading Chrome extension for taking notes in Google Meet, with over a million installs and a fair claim to owning the "notetaker without a bot" category. It's a solid tool. But if you're an engineer, PM, or security-conscious buyer looking for a Tactiq alternative, there's a specific complaint that keeps surfacing: you can't bring your own API keys.

The BYOK gap
Tactiq's transcription and summarization run on its own vendor infrastructure. That has three concrete downsides for a technical buyer:
1. You can't pick your LLM
Tactiq's AI summaries and Q&A run on the model Tactiq chose. If Anthropic ships a new Claude that's better at meeting summaries, you wait for Tactiq to adopt it. If you want to use a specific model you already have a subscription to, you can't.
2. Your audio and transcripts route through Tactiq's servers
Captions and, on paid plans, audio are transmitted to Tactiq's cloud for processing. This isn't unusual — most notetakers do the same — but it means you can't tell your legal or security team "the audio never leaves my machine." For meetings that discuss customer PII, financials, or IP, that's often disqualifying.
3. You pay a per-seat markup on top of the raw AI cost
Tactiq's Team plan is around $16.67/user/month annualized (as of July 2026). Your marginal LLM+transcription cost for the same volume, billed direct to Anthropic + OpenAI, is closer to $3-5/month. You're paying the difference for orchestration you could do yourself.

The main trade you make going with AI Assist is installation surface: two things (browser extension + local desktop app) instead of one. That's the price of the trio you get in return — BYOK, local audio, and one-time pricing.
When Tactiq is still the right pick
- You need Webex or another platform outside Meet / Zoom / Teams — AI Assist doesn't cover those yet.
- You don't have (and don't want to get) Anthropic + OpenAI accounts.
- Your org already uses Tactiq's Team features (shared spaces, integrations) that AI Assist doesn't have.
